Create a great workplace

The majority of facilities management professionals aspire to create a workplace that helps deliver high performance and create a great perception of the organisation.

However, in this complicated and competitive world, standing out from the crowd and creating excellence has never been harder. So where do we start?

In the words of author Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

First impressions count. In fact, they can mean make or break when it comes to business – one negative experience can be detrimental to your organisation. And facilities management professionals have a huge opportunity to help their organisation create a great first impression.

It is the role of the FM team to make sure that both guests and employees have a positive experience when visiting their building. When it comes to customers and clients this ‘experience’ can have an impact on whether they do business with you and for employees it can have an impact on recruitment, retention and productivity.

So how do you stand out and create a great first impression?

It’s important to create a welcoming environment, making sure the layout and design of the building is suitable and the right systems and procedures are in place to facilitate your organisation’s operations.

But in order to really stand out and achieve service excellence you need to think ‘people’. It’s your people who can help enhance customer experience, create a great first impression and make sure you are remembered for the right reasons.

If your work environment reflects your organisational culture and values this helps your employees do the same. By engaging your team and making sure that they understand and reflect your organisational culture and values you will improve your guest experience and help your organisation in a bid to stand out in such a competitive marketplace.
