Honeywell Company City Technology is celebrating over 20 years of excellence in ammonia sensor design. Due to the extensive use of ammonia in refrigeration and HVAC systems, demand for ammonia sensors in both developed and emerging markets is high and still showing significant growth.
During this period City Technology has successfully established itself as a key gas sensor supplier to this expanding market.
City’s patented ammonia sensor design is part of its market leading Sensoric product range. These electrochemical sensors are employed in a wide range of applications including refrigeration, chemical and fertilizer plants, food processing and production, and waste water treatment, helping to ensure that workers are kept safe and assets are protected.
Robin Barnes, Product Manager at City Technology, said: “With more than 20 years of innovation in ammonia sensing, City Technology is well positioned in the market, and continues to be the leading choice for sensing technology.
The market is currently seeing a high demand for ammonia gas sensors which is in part being driven by the use of ammonia in industrial refrigeration.
“Due to ammonia’s thermodynamic properties, it is one of the most cost effective and energy efficient refrigerant options. And as it is a natural refrigerant, it is also friendly to the environment due to its zero ozone-depleting (ODP) and zero global warming (GWP) properties. Now, because more and more personnel in the industry are being trained, coupled with reliable information on design and management of ammonia based refrigeration systems, barriers to transition from hydroflourocarbon (HFC) refrigerant systems are also being reduced.”
Barnes added: “City’s scientists and engineers, in partnership with our gas detection partners, are continuously advancing our sensor design to reach new standards in reliability and quality. We have also refined our complex manufacturing processes, ensuring that ammonia sensors are able to perform under the challenging humidity and temperature conditions typical for industrial refrigeration applications.
Within the wider industrial global ammonia sensor market it is City Technology’s sensor design capability that is key to its success. Robin Barnes concluded: “Sensors that are designed to meet the challenging environmental needs of the market and deliver operational life and reliability are what customers really value along with extensive business support. This is why City Technology continues to lead the industry”.
