Having just announced a more than doubling in size in 2013, Fife based wireless networking specialist Rapier Systems is now celebrating winning the Tayside Procurement Consortium (a shared procurement service for Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross Councils) contract to support the three Tayside Councils’ wireless network.
With around two hundred and fifty sites it is the largest in Scotland.
Most of the assets are connected by high performance, secure wireless links, which are considerably less expensive to install, operate and maintain compared to ‘fixed line’ networks.
The win will see Rapier’s headcount growing still further to meet the terms of the contract, which will run for four years and is underpinned by a comprehensive Service Level Agreement (SLA). Rapier had previously designed and installed much of the wireless network infrastructure for Dundee City council.
The company has grown dramatically on the back of a surge in demand for wireless networks, which it has designed and installed in a wide variety of environments from colleges and oil rigs to business parks and theatres.
Most recently Rapier completed a high – speed wireless link from Aviemore to the top of Cairngorm Mountain, virtually impossible using fixed lines, and it is now adding WiFi access at key visitor locations on the mountain.
Rapier’s Managing Director Richard Watson commented: “We won this highly significant contract against some of the UK’s best known telecoms providers – and the incumbent supplier – on both quality and price.
Increasingly, councils and other large, distributed organisations are realising the significant benefits possible with wireless.”
He added: “We will build on this success by growing organically whilst maintaining our core commitment to delivering the best possible solutions, both technical and commercial, for our customers. We anticipate high growth again this year.”
Rapier has offices in Fife and Cambridgeshire. The company has designed and delivered some of the most innovative wireless solutions in the UK including the largest metropolitan area wireless network in Scotland and one of the largest county-wide wireless networks in England.
