The Fire Industry Association (FIA) is pleased to announce a series of Fire Safety Seminars this year with support from local fire authorities to help the Responsible Persons comply with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.

The Association has planned Fire Safety Seminars in Cambridge (25th April), London (28th June) and Leeds (20th September) with the support of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, London Fire Brigade and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

There are simple, cost effective ways to protect residents, staff and businesses from fire and through these seminars the FIA aims to help the public make commercial properties more fire safe.

These FIA seminars began in 2008 and have since developed to cover various fire safety topics from fire legislation, means of escape and fire fighting by staff to fixed fire protection measures; and are relevant to commercial premises including office and retail buildings; care homes; sleeping accommodation; and warehouses.

Unwanted Fire Signals is an important issue for both fire brigades and end-users, especially with recent changes to response policies to automatic fire alarms by brigades in England. Therefore, this year the FIA added a presentation on ‘Tackling False Alarms’ which will be given by the respective fire service at each Fire Safety Seminar.

This is particularly timely as just last week the government brought forward the commencement of general power of competence within the Localism Act 2011; this means that fire services can go to consultation on whether to start charging for attendance at false alarms.

This presentation will give the audience the chance to learn, first hand, about the false alarm issues facing the fire brigade, their attendance policy and how to manage unwanted fire signals.

The event is tailored to those responsible for fire safety such as, commercial premises owners; facilities and health & safety managers; building designers; and consultants who wish to learn about the importance and benefits of incorporating fire safety protection and management measures.

No matter what size or type of business, this seminar will help delegates provide a safe environment for occupants and staff alike.

Delegates learn key fire safety points related to their working environment as well as having the chance to talk to the local Fire and Rescue Service, manufacturers, installers, suppliers and maintainers of fire protection equipment, and fire risk assessors.

The event information and agenda is available on the FIA website and places are limited so to confirm your place visit www.fia.uk.com/en/Events.
