Sustane: The sustainable multi-layer refuse sack makes its debut at The Cleaning Show

Berry bpi recycled products, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of smart, flexible and sustainable packaging and products, will bring its latest innovation to The Manchester Cleaning Show from 25-26 March 2020 at EventCity, Stretford.

The company, which uses recycled plastic to develop a range of products that deliver the highest levels of technical performance, will showcase its Sustane refuse sack.

The multiple-layer material used in the production of the sacks consists of 60% recycled farm film polymer. This delivers superior strength, making the Sustane refuse sacks more puncture-resistant and able to carry more waste without splitting compared to traditional mono-extruded sacks manufactured from recyclates produced from used packaging, for example.

While the product gets its super core strength from the recycled plastic film that has been previously used to wrap silage in the farming industry, it also enjoys the benefits of the outer skin made from the company’s best-selling Green Sack.

Making the Sustane sacks also enables the use of much less material in the manufacturing process, making it much more environmentally responsible as there is less waste created.

“We’re excited to be in Manchester for this year’s Cleaning Show to once again bring our sustainable products to the cleaning and hygiene trade,” says Lorcan Mekitarian, Sales Director, Berry bpi recycled products.

“Our Sustane refuse sacks are thinner, yet stronger, have green credentials and more economical to transport. And because the refuse sacks are made in the UK, they have a carbon footprint up to a third lower than alternative recycled refuse sacks typically produced in the Far East.”

Visitors to The Manchester Cleaning Show will be able to speak to the Berry bpi recycled products team to find out more about the recycled content in the refuse sacks. From April 2022, UK companies that use, or import, plastic packaging that doesn’t contain at least 30% recycled content will have to pay a tax.

Berry bpi recycled products is also one of the largest plastic film recyclers in Europe. Every year, it recycles more than 150,000 tonnes of plastic material, giving new life to polythene from commercial, industrial, packaging and agricultural sources.

At its five UK sites – four of which have zero-waste-to-landfill accreditation – the business has built the capacity to handle large volumes of recycled materials, while producing a range of innovative products.
