5th February 2013 – A leading air conditioning company has launched a campaign to support companies who need to prepare for the banning of a commonly used refrigerant from the end of next year. From midnight on December 31st 2014 the sale and storage of R22 recycled and reclaimed refrigerant will be banned. Overnight, this will make a great many air conditioning units currently installed in the country unserviceable and leave unprepared business with inoperative buildings as soon as the unit breaks down. For many companies that can’t afford to close buildings due to air-conditioning malfunction, the time to prepare has come. Chris Wollen from Ergro said: ‘Just as the once distant London Olympics were suddenly upon us, this legislation will catch many companies out if they do not start planning now. We have assembled a range of industry experts to help companies on the whole journey from logistics, options for conversion or replacement, financial and tax implications through to helping them understand what their liability is.’ Ergro is running a major summit at the Royal Society of Medicine in April and a series of roadshow events. The campaign was launched on Friday 1st February in the City of London and a free factsheet is being made available at www.ergro.co.uk where a live clock is counting down the time left until the ban.
