‘3 mountains, 7 trekkers, 24 hours, 1 great cause’

Seven hardy souls from polythene recycling company bpi.recycled products (BPI RP) are set to attempt the notoriously tough ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

On Friday 27 June 2014, the group of walkers – who are calling themselves the Polytrekkers – will bid to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours. The gruelling feat of stamina will be undertaken to raise a target of £5,000 for Cancer Research UK, one of BPI RP’s dedicated charities. The team has adopted a rallying slogan to boost its effort: “3 mountains, 7 trekkers, 24 hours, 1 great cause.”

Rachael Barton, Marketing Communications Manager at BPI RP – and one of the seven employees who will take part in the trek – said: “The Three Peaks Challenge is famous for being one of the most difficult endurance events there is, and we know it’s not going to be easy. However, it’s for such a good cause that I am confident all of us will see it through. Cancer touches so many people’s lives and this chance to raise money for one of our favourite charities is just too good to miss.”

As Europe’s largest polythene recycler BPI RP recycles up to 70,000 tonnes of waste polythene every year, which saves it from being sent to landfill.

The polythene is cleaned and turned into pellets, which can be used to create innovative ‘second life’ products, including The Green Sack™, a range of 100% recycled refuse sacks.

BPI RP has a strong commitment to supporting good causes that reflects the spirit of CSR that runs through the whole business.

The company recently pledged £5,000 to back a heroic attempt by athlete Elsa Hammond to row across the Pacific Ocean solo. Ella is raising money for environmental and gender equality charities.

Rachael Barton added: “We’ve been in training for months now and the seven of us are really looking forward to taking to the mountains in the Three Peaks Challenge.

Everyone at BPI RP has given us all the support we need to take part in this event and raise money for a charity close to our hearts, and we can’t wait to get started on 27 June.”
