BM TRADA technical experts will be offering a one-stop shop for advice on a broad range of services from testing and certification to research and training on stand B13 at Timber Expo on 24-25 September. With its new strong single identity, BM TRADA brings together all the expertise from BM TRADA Certification Ltd, TRADA Technology Ltd and Chiltern International Fire Ltd (including Chiltern Dynamics), enabling it to offer advice and deliver broad services across a wide range of sectors. BM TRADA’s technical experts will be available to advise on everything from research and testing of timber and fire-rated products to certification schemes for doors, windows and timber products. From its independent, UKAS-accredited testing facilities, BM TRADA can offer fire resistance testing, and reaction to fire testing, as well as security, durability, weather and acoustic products testing to British, European and International standards. It can also offer initial type testing to support CE marking for timber fasteners and connectors. BM TRADA’s certification schemes will also be on show. The BM TRADA Q-Mark is a quality mark covering product certification and service certification schemes and is regarded as one of the most rigorous certification processes available for construction products. Meanwhile, the Cert Mark is available for the certification of management systems, chain of custody, BRC competent persons and Factory Production Control (FPC) schemes. Topical presentations from leading experts in their chosen field will be on offer in the TRADA seminar theatre on TRADA’s stand (B9). Issues for discussion will include innovations in cross-laminated timber; how to control the discolouration of cladding; timber certification issues; how underfloor heating affects wood floor coverings; as well as fire protection in timber frame buildings. BM TRADA’s air tightness testing services will be on show on the Frame Wise stand (B28), where a test engineer will be offering regular demonstrations to explain how testing is conducted, typical air leakage targets and typical failure points that occur in dwellings. Looking forward to Timber Expo, Jon Osborn, BM TRADA Chief Operating Officer, Building and Product Services, declared: “This is the first major event we have attended since bringing the companies together under the BM TRADA name on 1 July. It gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our combined strengths and highlight the breadth of our service offering, while at the same time confirming that our values, our people and the integrity of our services remain the same. “We will continue to use industry-leading experts in their chosen fields to develop and deliver services which meet the needs of our customers across every industry sector.” Other events from BM TRADA during September include a free half-day fire safety seminar at the Birmingham NEC Holiday Inn on 24 September. Fire protection measures, understanding your responsibilities aims to explain the duties of the Responsible Person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) and raise awareness of passive fire protection, which is built into the structure of a building. It explains the importance of ensuring the competence of fire risk assessors and describes the role of third party certification in helping to confirm the quality, reliability and safety of products and personnel. On 17 September, BM TRADA will be streaming a live fire door test over the internet. To register for this free webcast, email Charlotte Rutt: crutt@bmtrada.com
