Families in Ronald McDonald House Cardiff get Christmas tree donation

A charity home in Cardiff, which provides free accommodation for families of children being treated at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, has received a donation of Christmas trees to help create a home away from home for parents and children staying this festive season.

phs Greenleaf, which supplies ready-decorated trees, delivered and installed the trees at Ronald McDonald House Cardiff, based opposite the Children’s Hospital at the Heath Hospital site.

Run by Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, the 30-bedroom house has three day rooms, which act as communal lounge areas for residents. Each features a 6ft ‘Winter Spice’ Christmas tree, decorated with a warm and cosy red and gold theme to help create a homely atmosphere for families staying during the festive season as their children receive treatment.

Ronald McDonald House’s reception area also features a large ‘Winter Frosty’ tree with a magical snowy white and silver theme.

phs Greenleaf has been donating Christmas trees to Ronald McDonald House every year since it opened in 2017.

Jordan Harbin, Ronald McDonald House’s Community and Corporate Fundraiser for Wales, said: “The importance of these Christmas trees to our families should never be underestimated. These are families who are often far away from home and other family members, while their baby or child is treated at the Children’s Hospital. Our Ronald McDonald House, situated opposite the main entrance, allows parents to be close to their child at all times, reducing some of the stress, as well as financial strain.

“We sometimes have one parent alone and we sometimes have the whole family, including siblings and even grandparents, who have made the journey to provide support. It is a difficult time for them all and we want to create a homely, festive environment in our day rooms which offers some comfort to them. We love choosing our trees from the different themes that phs Greenleaf offer every year and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.”
