One of supermarket chain Morrisons newest branches is receiving plaudits from Telford’s disabled community for its new Changing Places facility.
The Lawley, Telford branch opened a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet, supplied and installed by Clos-o-Mat, in-store just a month ago. It is the first Changing Places toilet for Morrisons, and the first in any Midlands supermarket.
Conveniently located by the store café, the Changing Places toilet compliments the standard WC facilities. Larger than a conventional wheelchair accessible toilet, a Changing Places toilet also has additional equipment, including a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, hoist and privacy screen for a more dignified, hygienic experience.
“Even in the short time it has been open, as word spreads, the toilet is being used regularly, and the team here have had nothing but praise and positive comments about it,” said store manager Frank Cromie.
Adds Kelvin Grimes, Clos-o-Mat’s Changing Places specialist, “We go to the toilet 8 times a day on average, so the chances are that when we are away from home, we will need to ‘go’. We are supposed to be an inclusive society; that includes providing appropriate public toilets. A Changing Places toilet is now ‘desirable’ under the latest Building Regulations Approved Document M 2013, and ‘good practice’ under BS8300:2009 for all new build and refurbishment projects involving buildings to which numbers of the public have access- 600+ are already open, at museums, leisure centres etc.”
Clos-o-Mat has a proven track record on the supply and installation of fully accessible toilets, including a substantial number of Changing Places facilities. Its expertise extends through to specification guidance, covered in a white paper-‘Considerations & Specification of Changing Places Accessible Toilets’- available for free download from its website www.clos-o-mat.com.
Clos-o-Mat’s ability to deliver design advice, supply, installation, project management, commissioning and maintenance across the ambit of accessible toileting equipment, including the Clos-o-Mat wash and dry (automatic) toilet, means it is uniquely positioned to simplify the whole process for forward-thinking environments to which the public have access.
